Birds of a feather
I received some awesome unexpected gifts through the mail: two books and a print. The books will feature in a coming post and the print is an old-style illustration of orchids. It was sent by the person who suggested Substack to me, and I hope my daily ramblings make up for it.
Today right after I opened my gifts I heard a really, REALLY, loud thud. A bird crashed against the window! I didn’t see it but I heard as it fell in our front yard. Now it’s lying there and both the nurse and my mom are too afraid to pick it up. It has to be picked up soon because of the heat and insects. It seemed to hit the window head on and break its neck. It’s lucky it didn’t break the window.
The print reminded me of the orchids my mom used to have. Below is a plaque from a course on Japanese printmaking (ukiyo-e) where one of those orchids served as theme for my final project.
